As expected there were gymnasts from all over the country including Ireland and Jersey representing their clubs in a many different classes of disability. Quentin was entered in the class 1 Junior open category and competing on all 6 pieces of MAG equipment.

The day did not start off well with Quentin starting on his least favourite piece the Pommel horse, but once that was out of the way we settled down and got on to show mostly clean routines on the further 5 pieces.

The day was finished off with a long medal ceremony but for Quentin it was worth it as he came away with Overall Gold and Gold on Floor, Rings, Vault, P Bars, High Bar and a bronze on the Pommel Horse.

East Midlands Girls National Grades 4 – 1 Championships

On Sunday 18th March 2018, two of our competitive squad girlies took their places in the Annual East Midlands Grades at National 4 Level. As the two friends and Lincoln team mates got up on the morning, the first challenge was to travel safely to Leicester through the aftermath of the Beast of the East 2.0!

After a much longer journey than normal, the gymnastics was easy. They pulled out performances on all pieces including the dreaded range, to get themselves the marks to pass this grade with flying colours. Sophie managed a 6th place and Lauren a 12th and they couldn’t be happier. In both of their words "We love our gym, we do it because we enjoy it and that’s all that matters".

Thanks to Lauren’s mum for getting up early and clearing the snow off her car to get them there, you did us proud girlies as always.

w/c 27th Nov & w/c 4th Dec - Recreational - Badge Weeks

For our recreational gymnasts, they have been taking part in their Badge assessment weeks. All gymnasts in sessions have been hard at work trying to achieve the next level of badge on our British Gymnastics Recreational ladder. From our new starters in Mixed sessions trying to achieve their first Level 8 Proficiency Award to our long-standing members who are heading for Silver and Gold Awards. At Lincoln we test badges 3 – 4 times a year over a 2-week period to enable us to identify individual gymnast improvements in our sessions.

Achieving badges at Lincoln can appear different to other clubs. We are always looking for our gymnasts to understand why they do an activity and what they do it for. Can they do it more than once and that coaches are not having to teach to achieve in that session, but that prior learning enables them to do it without too much prompt, just sometimes a little more practise.

In normal weekly sessions we combine some related badge activities in our apparatus work and the general planning of fun varied sessions. When testing weeks then come along the children are questioned and tested to see if they can relate a very basic badge activity to something we have learnt on a piece of apparatus.

For example, If a gymnast can do hop, jump, hop, jump along a floor space.

"What is hop, jump, hop, jump?"
"Do you know?" …...…. yes, Hop Scotch.
"Where do we apply hop scotch in our gymnastics?"
"Do you know this?" ........ yes, on our springboard or Trampete when we are getting onto or over our vaulting table or box top.

Hopefully leading to a more confident gymnast who understands more about their sport.

Well Done to all who have managed to pass a badge this time, for those who have not keep working hard and next time you will be successful. Badges will be issued after Christmas, parents keep an eye out for your child’s name on the Badge Board in the main office in Jan 2018.
